A Journey That Comes Full Circle

I launched Pura Vida Adventures Surf and Yoga Retreats over 20 years ago, long before I became a mom. My vision was simple: to create a space where women could bond, break free from routine, and rediscover joy through surfing, yoga, and nature.

Over the years, many mothers and daughters attended our women’s retreats and would tell me, “I wish I could do this with my daughter (or my mom).” Now, as a mother of twin daughters, Makayla and Zayda, I understand that wish more than ever.

The Inspiration Behind the Mother-Daughter Retreat

A few seasons ago, something magical happened. Three mother-daughter pairs joined one of our regular retreats—completely unplanned. I watched as these families surfed together, laughed together, and shared powerful moments on and off the mat.

Each mother told me how the experience deepened their bond. And when I asked the daughters what they thought, they all said the same thing:

“It was amazing to see my mom as a person—not just my mom. We never get time like this together.”

That was my aha moment. And that’s why I created our official Mother-Daughter Surf and Yoga Retreat in Costa Rica.
