There’s something wonderful about waking up close enough to hear the waves before you’ve even opened your eyes.

Our home for the week is Hotel Tropico Latino, a beachfront hotel in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, where tropical gardens lead to the sand and the ocean becomes part of your everyday rhythm. Between adventures, you can cool off in the beachfront pool, stretch out in a hammock, or take a long walk along the shore.

The hotel’s full-service Spa Natural adds another invitation to slow down. Your retreat includes a one-hour massage, and additional treatments are available if you’d like a little more pampering.

Then there’s Shambala, the hotel’s farm-to-table restaurant. Fresh, locally sourced ingredients and thoughtful cooking make meals something to look forward to, especially with the ocean in front of you. Three healthy, gourmet meals each day are thoughtfully prepared for your dietary needs, with meals enjoyed at our beachfront restaurant and some of our favorite restaurants around Santa Teresa.

Surfing in front of our retreat at Playa Carmen, Costa Rica.Catch a Wave and Carry That Feeling into the New Year

Your first wave. A smoother turn. The moment you paddle for something you might have hesitated to try yesterday.

Surfing offers so many small opportunities to surprise yourself, and that feels especially meaningful at the start of a new year.

Our surf instruction program meets you where you are, whether you’ve never held a surfboard or already feel at home in the lineup. Our surf and yoga retreat in Santa Teresa welcomes beginners and intermediate surfers alike. We organize surfers by ability, so you can travel with someone at a completely different level, and each receives coaching suited to your own goals.

With small groups, experienced coaches, and personalized feedback, you have space to learn at your own pace. Our maximum ratios are three students per instructor in the whitewater and two per instructor for outside surfers. Video analysis helps you see what’s working and where a small adjustment can make a difference.

For beginners, the nearby beaches offer opportunities to build confidence in the whitewater, with our coaches choosing the surf spots to suit your level and the day’s conditions. More experienced surfers can work on their technique with guidance tailored to them.

And the best part? You don’t have to arrive with a big goal. Being willing to try, laugh, and paddle out again is a pretty lovely way to welcome January.

Daily yoga classes at our beachfront studio. Oceanfront Yoga to Help You Find Your Rhythm

Alongside the energy of surfing, our daily yoga classes offer time to pause.

In the oceanfront yoga shala at Hotel Tropico Latino, the sound of the waves accompanies your practice. You can stretch tired paddling muscles, explore your balance, and bring your attention back to your breath.

Our classes welcome all levels, including guests who are just discovering yoga. As one year closes and another begins, this time on the mat gives you space to notice how you feel and consider what you’d like to make room for.

Maybe that’s more adventure. More rest. More time outside. Or simply more moments when you feel fully present.

Everything is optional throughout the retreat, so you can follow the rhythm that feels right for you.

The incredible sunsets light up the skies every evening. Fall for Santa Teresa’s Beach-Town Spirit

Santa Teresa has a way of making an ordinary afternoon feel like a little adventure.

This beautiful bohemian beach town on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast is full of inviting shops, amazing restaurants, and places to stop for a smoothie or browse for something to bring home. It’s the kind of place where you can wander without much of a plan and still find something you love.

Then there are the beaches: wide stretches of sand, tropical greenery, and breathtaking sunsets that invite you to linger.

The area’s variety of surf breaks gives our team options for different abilities, including beginners learning close to shore when conditions are suitable. Beyond your surf sessions, there’s plenty of time to explore town, enjoy the coastline, or find your favorite patch of shade.

It’s this mix of surfing, exploring, and slowing down that makes a Santa Teresa surf vacation so appealing.

New Year's Eve Dinner on the beachNew Year’s Eve in Santa Teresa: Celebrate Costa Rica-Style

When New Year’s Eve 2026 arrives, we trade our surfboards for a night of celebrating by the sea.

Our New Year’s Eve party begins with a special menu created for the occasion—a festive dinner to enjoy together before the music gets going. From there, the evening unfolds with live music, dancing, and a bonfire on the beach.

Picture warm night air, the ocean beside you, and the people you’ve been sharing waves and adventures with gathered to welcome 2027.

You can spend the evening right at the retreat, enjoying our beach celebration, or stroll along the shore to explore the different beach parties in the area. There’s room to make the night your own, whether you’re ready to dance for hours or happiest taking it all in beside the bonfire.

Live music at our Costa Rica RetreatFrom the Coast to the Jungle: A Montezuma Waterfall Excursion

Our afternoon excursion to Montezuma lets you experience another beautiful corner of Costa Rica.

We begin with lunch in this colorful coastal town of Montezuma, taking time to enjoy its laid-back atmosphere before heading into the jungle for a waterfall hike.

The journey is part of the magic. Suspension bridges carry you high through the jungle, offering a different perspective on the lush greenery surrounding you. Below and around you, the forest stretches out in layers of leaves, vines, and towering trees.

Then come the waterfalls, tumbling through the tropical landscape—a spectacular reward after the hike.

It’s a wonderful change of scenery: from the open horizons of Santa Teresa to the green embrace of the jungle, all within the same retreat.
