Our surf and yoga retreats are a great vacation for solo travelers who want to explore a new culture, experience an incredible surf adventure, and meet fun, like-minded people – all while feeling safe and welcomed in a foreign country!

Obviously, we’re not just talking hypothetically–many of us at PVA traveled solo to Costa Rica the first time we came here, and have continued to travel on our own through other Central American countries as well!

We love the warmth of the people, the security and safety of travel, the amenities of transportation (from the international airports to air conditioned shuttles!), and the beautiful journey every traveler gets to take from point A to point B. Over 40% of our guests are solo travelers, and our clients rave about their experience in Costa Rica!

“Great solo trip. The surfing instruction was my favorite experience. I came down a bit nervous and left planning my return! I met amazing women, the food was excellent but the planning and organization that this group executes is as good as it gets. The yoga and spa were just more icing on the cake.”

Whether you consider yourself a wild wanderer or a more cautious traveler, Costa Rica is perfect for you.

Arrive in style in the San Jose International Airport, where you’ll find luxury coffee shops where you can get your first “cafe con leche,” friendly information booths, places to exchange currency, and even locations to pick up a Costa Rican data chip for your cell phone!

Leaving the airport you’ll find orange airport-registered taxis to take you anywhere you’d like to go. – Booked a shuttle? No problem–they’ll pick you up straight from the airport, or at your hotel if you decide to stay a night in town.

With direct transportation from the international airports to Santa Teresa that you can book in advance, you’ll never feel at a loss for where to go next.

SOLO TRAVELER FAQ

Do you have other solo travelers at the surf camp?

Absolutely! About 40% of our clients come alone, so you definitely won’t feel left out as a solo traveler. Want a more in-depth idea of what a camp is like for a solo traveler? Read our blog “I’m Just a Girl, Standing in Front of Other Girls, Asking them to Go Surfing” about 10 amazing women who came to our surf and yoga retreat as strangers and became fast friends!

What if there is a group at the surf camp? Will I feel alone?

The beauty of our retreats is that you will ALWAYS have opportunities to be with people if you choose. We design our retreats specifically to be a fun, adventurous, community space for people to surf, eat, and hang out together. Because the beach is more fun with buddies!

What if I have to stay a night in San Jose?

No problem. With the accessibility of modern hotels (including the ability to book online in advance), the kindness of the Costa Rican people, the airport-certified red taxis, and shuttles that can pick you up directly from your hotel, you’ll have no problem feeling safe and sure about your destination during your vacation.

What about the hotel--is it safe?

The Hotel Tropico Latino is rated one of the top 5 hotels in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica, and their security is first-rate as well–with 24 hour security guards, hands-on staff attention, and safes in each room for your personal use.
