These long months at home have got us daydreaming like crazy about the day our tropical beachfront hotel in Costa Rica reopens! Whether you know this magical spot well (alumni shoutout!) or you just can’t wait to experience its beauty for the first time, we’d like to brag a bit about the surfer’s paradise that is our retreat home base: Hotel Tropico Latino.

As the idyllic home of Pura Vida Adventures for the last 12 years, this little slice of heaven holds a very big space in our hearts. And it’s one of the top reasons our guests keep coming back. Our pampered surf campers are treated to 7 epic days and 6 nights at this beautiful location with our all-inclusive package of surf, yoga, meals, massages, and tons of fun.

Not to mention the view! Walk to the surf, practice yoga in the ocean breeze, and dine while wiggling your feet in the warm sand… seriously, can it get any better than this?

Last year, our hotel opened a NEW beachfront restaurant, debuted NEW wellness activities, and offered some stunning NEW luxury accommodations. Although all of that’s on hold for now, it means that the hotel’s eventual reopening will be a truly exciting moment to experience the very best of Costa Rica, surrounded by an amazing community of like-minded women.

We honestly can’t imagine a better setup for our retreats, and our beachfront hotel is one of the top reasons Pura Vida Adventures offers guests a word-class surf and yoga experience in one of the most beautiful locations in the world.  

We plan on reopening our surf and yoga retreats in late 2020/early 2021, and you can bet that we’ll be the first ones to hit the waves out front and soak in the sunshine post-surf in a Tropico Latino hammock. We hope you’ll join us!

Waves, Waves, Waves!

Our hotel sits right smack dab in front of one of the best beginner/intermediate surf beaches in Central America, and we are blessed to hold our surf lessons right here.

You’ll walk down a jungle path right from your hotel room to the warm water waves out front, and maybe see a howler monkey or two on the way. We’re incredibly lucky to have gentle, rolling beginner waves at our home spot nearly every month of the year, and we love spending as much time as possible enjoying this stunning beach. Many of our alumni who have progressed through our surfing program rave about the wave conditions available here, where all levels of surfers can feel the stoke!

On a typical retreat day, we’ll have breakfast in the hotel’s beachfront restaurant at around 8 a.m. and then meet beneath the swaying palm trees by the beach to get ready to surf. There we’ll check out the waves together, practice the day’s lesson, wax up our surfboards, snap some fun pics, and walk right down to the water. If it’s time for a break, there’s hammock here with your name on it.

Oceanfront Restaurant and Bar

With the hotel’s new restaurant located directly on the beach, we’re now dining al fresco in a tropical garden with an unbelievable view of the waves. Our new breakfast favorites include a dragon fruit + chia smoothie bowl and avocado toast with poached eggs over home-made multigrain bread.

Lunchtime newbies are grilled shrimp tacos and a lobster sandwich. The fresh and creative menu is always changing, and it’s packed with dishes made from locally-sourced organic ingredients to power you through your retreat.

Evening Magic on the Beach

On Saturdays, chef Ale hosts a beach BBQ and bonfire under the stars, with novelties like grilled vegetables, mahi mahi and juicy pork ribs. Dance in the sand to live local music as the sun dips into the ocean. Tuesdays and Thursdays, drinks are 2×1. Yes please! We love sharing these moments with our happy guests.
