EXCELLENT Based on 133 reviews Posted on megan fehsenfeldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Increíble!! That's what i think about PVA, my surf/yoga retreat in Santa Teresa AND every single last person who person who was there helping and teaching us along the way! The logistics were flawless, communication perfection, the yoga, the food, the ground school, the photography and of course learning to actually and finally SURF was better than I had imagined! And I had imagined and imagined and imagined for 5 years before taking the leap. I moved to Costa Rica 5 years ago with a very strong intent to learn to surf but was never inspired or given the confidence to do it until I went on my retreat. Now I can not imagine my life without it. Having such amazing humans there to teach, cheer, preach and believe in me has forever changed me; for now I am a Surfer!Posted on Jacob ToweryTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. If you had asked me at 3 AM on Wednesday morning, how I would rate Pura Vida adventures, I was absolutely ready to give three stars out of five. I had a rough start. There were ants in my room and ant droppings on the pillow. Several hairs in the shower. There was a loud whine coming from the toilet. I was exhausted from taking three flights to get here including a redeye flight where I didn’t sleep much. I was so tired that I wasn’t up to surfing at all on Monday. And I got feasted on by mosquitoes in my room Monday afternoon, Monday night, and Tuesday night. To top it all off, my ego took a hit when I had practiced thousands of pop-ups and was then encouraged by the lead instructor Davide to rethink my whole approach and try something new. A new way of standing up, a new stance. When I went out and put it into practice on the water, I was wobbly, not confident, and struggled the first day. Needless to say, I was not a very happy camper. But a lot happened since then that made me bump this up to five stars. My one major complaint at the end was that I think it would’ve been better if they had two videographers because most of us didn’t get as many videos as we would’ve liked. But there were so many positives I would still give five stars. The food was incredible and the drinks were very good. They eventually sprayed my room when I complained about the mosquitoes and some combination of that and citronella incense and a strong fan gave me no more mosquito bites for the last several nights, which was a huge relief. Everyone was friendly and Pri was a great hostess. All of the other campers were friendly and kind and no one was a jerk. My instructors were all excellent. Adri and Michi were positive, supportive, and gave specific feedback after practically every wave. Nicki taught me how to paddle better, including keeping my arms straight for the entire stroke and how to turtle roll more efficiently. I ended up turtle rolling more this week than I had the rest of my life combined, and it went from being scary to being routine and I was much smoother at it by the end. Nikki is a wonderful teacher and gave great feedback after the rides and had very positive energy. But I think what clinched five stars for me was the lead instructor, Davide. I was fortunate to have him as my instructor the last several days and he is amazing. His method of teaching how to stand up on the board and the stance is unique. I have probably had six other instructors in my life and none of them taught this particular way. But my stance went from being hunched over to me being upright much more often and I think in the long run, this is a better way to stand up on the board and for the first time in my life, I was able to actually look where I was going on a number of waves. I had heard instructors suggest this to me, but how to actually do it had been elusive for years. Davide was positive, friendly, warm, and gave specific constructive feedback after every wave. It was my hope that I might be able to learn more about how to do a bottom turn and practice that and there were several waves where I played around with bottom turns, which was really fun and made me excited to practice this more at home when I get back. I feel like my surfing has improved substantially in the last several days and I also enjoyed the week. I appreciated that there was a good amount of downtime and availability to get massages. Overall, I definitely recommend this surf camp. Pura Vida!Posted on Camilo ZaksTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Outstanding week! Pura Vida isn’t just surf lessons, it is a wrap around experience including meals, socializing and yoga lessons. The surf instruction, though, is really strong - for all levels. As a near beginner I was able to develop to the point of feeling comfortable surfing at home on my own, which was my goal. But the week is so much more than the surfing. The hotel is right on the beach, and beautiful, the food is amazing and the camaraderie with the fellow campers and staff is what really makes it specials.Posted on Yaron OrenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Pura Vida Surf Camp was an incredible experience. Pri, Davide, Michi, Nicki, Adri, and the entire crew create such a welcoming atmosphere that you instantly feel like part of the family. Everyone is genuinely kind, supportive, and passionate about what they do. The food is amazing, the surf instruction is fantastic (whether you’re a beginner or more experienced), and the whole vibe of the camp is just special. It’s the kind of place where you come for the surf but leave with great memories and new friends. Can’t recommend it enough — I’ll definitely be back. 🌊🤙Posted on Rebecca GellerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have now been at this surf camp 3 years in a row and highly recommend it. The surf instructors are terrific and it is an overall fun, positive, encouraging experience. The yoga is relaxing and restorative. The entire experience is terrific and I know I'll be returning for many years to come!Posted on Claye FeldTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Spending the week with Yojan and Surf Pura Adventure was honestly one of the best parts of my trip. Yojan is the kind of person who makes you feel comfortable right away — super genuine, warm, welcoming, and just a beautiful human being. This was so much more than a surf experience. It felt like sharing great waves, great moments, and a real connection with someone who truly cares. His love for surfing, his kindness, and the way he treats people make this place really special. I left with amazing memories, a big smile, and the feeling that I made a real friend. I couldn’t recommend Yojan and Surf Pura Adventure more.Posted on Stewart DohrmanTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Pura Vida Adventures teaches great fundamentals or helps people hone their surfing skills in the prettiest most laid back beachfront hotel you could hope for. Pura Vida Adventures made ALL the magic happen! The accommodations were fabulous, the food fresh & delicious, the extra adventures amazing! The awesome surfing instruction got me to be a Zen Surfer! The yoga and massage had my muscles melting all while watching the surf and listening to the sounds of the birds in the tree canopy over head. You'll LOVE your Pura Vida Adventures!Posted on Joy WalkerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I just returned from one of the best girls trips I've ever had, learning to surf and practicing yoga with Pura Vida Adventures! It was more than I ever could have expected. I signed up for a girls trip with my friends, not so much the surfing part as I've always had anxiety around being tossed in the water. But the team of instructors at Pura Vida Adventures helped ease all of my worries, made me feel prepared for what I was doing daily and most importantly, made me feel safe. I was standing up on day 1 when I really thought I'd just be taking pictures from the beach. Every instructor is patient, kind, encouraging and knowledgeable. Everything was truly perfect; the yoga from the beautiful yoga decks, the luxurious spa, the delicious and fresh food, the comfortable rooms and bungalows, and the spectacular beachfront property. We loved shopping and eating in Santa Teresa, walking the beach and tide pools and renting ATVs to explore out further, visiting a cowboy bar in the hills and ending at a cozy beachside restaurant and the most serene beach I've ever seen. I can't quit thinking about this trip and encourage anyone thinking about it to just do it! I hope my next trip to Pura Vida Adventures can be with my daughter.Posted on Steven GissTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Multiple purchases here from longboards to wetsuits to straw hats. These guys are always solid. Great people, great business. I come down from Washington state to surf the Oregon Coast and always stop and buy something here just to support them.
EXCELLENT Based on 162 reviews Posted on Nichole DVerified Great Surf Experience Pura Vida Adventures is the perfect place to spend New Years! Connecting with the spirit of Costa Rica through adventure, relaxation, surfing, and yoga! Pri was the best host and made everything easy and seamless. The surfing instructors were energetic, fun, and super knowledgeable. Forever changed my surfing game! So grateful for the tips and instruction they shared. Tropico Latino was an amazing place to stay centrally located with great food, spa, and service! Finally Karen’s yoga was the perfect touch to round out the experience. If you are looking to improve you’re surfing you won’t find a better experience!! Thank you for being so amazing!!Posted on Robert GVerified We just returned to Philadelphia from a trip with Pura Vida Adventures in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. Talk about blowing our expectations out of the water (or onto a wave!)! We just returned to Philadelphia from a trip with Pura Vida in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. From start to finish this trip was really enjoyable. Pura Vida (Tierza) was ultra responsive and helpful in the planning of our trip. Hotel Latino in Santa Teresa seamlessly interfaced with the tour provider to attend to all of our needs. The hotel's front desk (Andry and Guadalupe) was ultra attentive and helpful in navigating our excursions and attending to our requests. We took three surf lessons with Nicole during our seven day trip and the lessons were beyond what I could have hoped for. In three lessons, my partner went from zero experience to surfing. I caught more waves in three days than I had caught in my previous twenty years of attempting to surf. Nicole was perfectly suited to teach surf lessons to us. We rode horses down the beach, did morning yoga and even got a couple of tattoos (which have healed up nicely). The hotel is an absolutely dreamy location, on the beach, with a fantastic restaurant and a top notch spa. We both got sixty minute massages and were really impressed with the skill of the masseuses and the facility, given that the spa is on the beach and we were getting the massages in the middle of a raging thunderstorm at 7pm in the evening. We left for home feeling accomplished, yet rested. Thank you very much for all of your efforts to make our stay an enjoyable as it was. The few issues that we had were responded to immediately and addressed faster than I could have expected should they have occurred at a 5 star USA property. The level of politeness of everyone we encountered was really quite surprising and welcome. I would recommend our trip, with Pura Vida Adventures and Hotel Latino, to everyone! Thank you so much.Posted on Karen HVerified Do a thing. Now!! I am a returning guest at PVA. I met and have admired the owner for 18 years!! The hottie who was my bartender there in 2007 is now my landlord in Santa Teresa. I have been to several surf camps. I have life long friends from PVA. Do yourself a favor... sign up!! Go! Never go back home. That's what I did. Free dinner 🍽 at Muzza. On me. TRUST ME! Goooooo. Now!!!Posted on Ann EVerified Amazing surf camp The surf instructors were amazing - engaged with great skills and competence. The lodge and resraurant were grest too.Posted on KharrisVerified Excellent Surf & Yoga Retreat Outstanding & Awesome ~ is what comes to mind spending the week with Pura Vida Adventures! I joined two friends for the women's surf & yoga retreat, and immediately bonded with the Pura Vida team, & the other women on the trip. The Pura Vida team, especially Pri (Priscilla) & Tierza are exceptional, the accomodations (Tropico Latino) are top notch, & the restaurant (Shambala) was excellent for breakfast, lunch or dinner. By far, the surf instructors are hands down the very best (Davide, Miche, Nikki), amazing at what they do with so much patience & care. On the yoga side Karen was wonderful, the yoga sessions were perfect, especially after surf. What was truly heart warming is spending the time making new friends, with so many laughs, much happiness, continue flow of positive energy from the group.Posted on Jen LVerified Surfing Adventure Relaxation Community I just got back from week at Pura Vida Adventures, and it was an incredible experience from start to finish. This was my 3rd time, and I will be back! The retreat is set in Santa Teresa, right on the best surfing beach, which makes it perfect for surfers of all levels. The Instructors are some of thee most kind people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Their Pura Vida Spirit shines from within. They are extremely knowledgeable, patient, and passionate about teaching. They made sure to tailor the lessons to our skill levels, providing personalized feedback that helped me improve my techniques. This includes video analysis which is so helpful. The accommodations were comfortable and cozy, with a great atmosphere for meeting other surf enthusiasts. The food was delicious and fresh, offering a mix of local and international dishes, which made each meal something to look forward to.The retreat includes daily yoga. Don’t skip it! It compliments the surfing perfectly. There is also a massage included, and it is so relaxing. At the beginning of the week, the retreat hostess with the mostest will organize other activities to participate in throughout the week, as you wish. Whether you’re looking to learn how to surf or improve your skills, Pura Vida Adventures offers a fantastic mix of adventure, relaxation, and community. I highly recommend it!Posted on Mollie WVerified Surf with confidence in paradise! Wow. Just...wow. This was my second time heading to Costa Rica for a Pura Vida Adventure surf camp and it exceeded expectations. I attended surf camp with my sister and a few friends made on our last trip. First, the hotel is PERFECT - tucked into the edge of the jungle and right on the beach, delicious food - a fresh juice every morning, yoga at sunset, massages as you listen to the waves roll in... And the level of surf instruction from ground school to grabbing your first or 101st green wave is second to none. The team at PVA know what they're doing. Whether you come alone or with others, the whole group learns, fails, succeeds and cheers each other on the whole time. Learn new or hone existing surf skills, build friendships, nap in a hammock, spy the monkeys in the trees, relax AND have fun. This retreat is the total package!Posted on reilljenVerified Dream first solo travel Just wrapped an absolute dream week with Pura Vida and am already planning the next trip back. The whole team is truly wonderful; the coaches are technical and will push you, but are also warm, hilarious, and loving. I learned more in a week here than I did over a dozen private lessons with my local surf company — they don’t push you into waves or scream to “POP UP”, they really break the science of surf down. Pri, the retreat manager, is an angel on earth (literally, you’ll be eating your lunch and she’ll be taking your order for dinner). Hotel Tropico is gorgeous and has the best beach and restaurant in the area. Food is so fresh and delicious. Itinerary is just full enough, with the perfect amount of opportunity to have down time should you choose. And the people! It’s a down to earth vibe, and many campers are returnees (some have been 15 times which says a lot). This was my first solo travel and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Book this now, trust me!Posted on Rebecca GVerified Highly recommend! I have now been at this surf camp 2 years in a row and highly recommend it. The surf instructors are terrific and it is an overall fun, positive, encouraging experience. The yoga is relaxing and restorative. The entire experience is terrific and I know I'll be returning for many years to come!
